As a company Infosat is involved in a number of events and initiatives supporting charitable groups, not for profits, and community organizations. Infosat has been involved with various organization based in Calgary and around Canada supporting a number of great causes.

This holiday season, we've really ramped up the effort and been met with great results we're proud of. Have a look at what we've been up to over the past weeks and months:

Infosat's Annual Food Drive and Raffle for the Calgary Interfaith Food Bank - Christmas Season 2009

As in past years, Infosat has supported the Calgary Interfaith Food Bank holding an internal food drive, and cash fund raiser raffling off some fantastic prizes.

In total Infosat raised $820.00 which will be used by the Food Bank to purchase approximately $3280.00 worth of groceries for Calgarians in need. Infosat wishes the Calgary International Food Bank the best in the coming year.

Santa Clause Shuffle - December 5th 2009

Infosat's corporate team was among the 400 Calgarians that participated in the Salvation Army's annual Santa Clause Shuffle and Elf walk.

In addition to earning the bragging rights for running 5.8 km in -21º C with windchill, Infosat's team was awarded the distinction of "Top Fund Raising Team of 2009" and look forward to participating again next year.

A big finish for Terry, Alycia, and Josh (Right)

Summits of Hope - Mount Kilimanjaro - November 2009

For a number of years, Infosat has supported Summits of Hope on their international climbs supporting the BC Children's Hospital Foundation. By providing the climbers with an Iridium Satellite Phone to use during their climb, the volunteers and climbers at Summits of Hope have been able to keep in touch with family and friends, and update their web-blogs as they climb.

This year, climber Don Edwards sent us a message as they were starting off.

Fame for Food - Christmas Season 2008

During this past Christmas season, Infosat decided to take our annual Christmas food drive a step further than leaving a empty box in the kitchen.

We chose to participate in a program called Fame for Food, which supports the Calgary Interfaith Food Bank and smaller food banks in the surrounding area. Staff members were challenged to meet the minimum donation to participate in Fame for Food company greeting filmed and showed by CityTV. A staff Christmas raffle also helped to collect money for the Calgary Interfaith Food Bank to spend throughout the year. The raffle was a success--largely because of the fantastic prizes donated by Infosat, and the decision to dollar match staff contributions to the raffle.

The end result of this holiday initiative was the collection of nearly 800 lbs of food, $1650.00 cash donation which will be used to purchase approximately $6500.00 worth of food for needy Calgarians throughout the year.

1st Kanata Scouts - UNESCO World Heritage Trip - August 2009

The 1st Kanata Beaverbrook Scout Troop is on the move! The 19 Youth and Scouters will be traveling to two remote UNESCO World Heritage sites in Newfoundland this August. Infosat provided them with Iridium Satellite Phones, essential accessories, complimentary training on how to use Iridium phones in the case of emergencies, and the  confidence needed to safely take their adventures further afield.

Infosat wishes the Troop the best on their trip to Gros Morne and L'Anse aux Meadows.

Spirit Dancer Canoe - British Isles Canoe Journey

To bring together, inspire and captivate youth from Canada and the British Isles for a journey of a lifetime in the Spirit Dancer Canoe. To provide the opportunity for youth to learn about team work, life skills, environmental research, history and culture while participating in an innovative challenge.  To complete over two summer seasons a circumnavigation of the British Isles covering over 4000 km of coastline in a 42 foot Montreal Canoe.

That pretty much sums up what British Isles Canoe Journey is all about. Infosat simply provided the Iridium satellite phone to make sure they could make their journey as safe as possible.
